Collected Personal Data
I only collect personal data about the individuals in your household that is provided by you (the client/primary taxpayer and/or their spouse) when I have been contracted to prepare your tax return or tax returns. The personal data I collect from individuals on your tax return includes, but is not limited to: personal information and identifiers, including name, date of birth, Social Security number, address, and employer(s); a copy of your state-issued identification card or driver's license; copies of your IRS tax forms, including W-2s, any 1099 or 1098 form, or other IRS-issued documents; and a copy of your completed tax return that I prepare.
Purpose of collecting data
I collect data to simplify the experience for clients' continued relationship with me as their tax preparer. By keeping personal data, my clients do not have to repetitively share information, such as the names and personal identifiers of their dependents, or their home address. Furthermore, collecting personal data helps me to improve my marketing and the quality of my services by understanding who my customers are, where they are located, and other client demographics. I retain personal data for 3 years after a client's most recent tax return has been filed with me. After expiration of this timeframe, I dispose of documents securely, by shredding physical copies and permanently deleting virtual copies.
